FIBC Bags

FIBC's are one of the most cost effective and ideal types of packaging for shipping and storing dry bulk products. They can produced from either tubular or flat polypropylene (PP) woven fabrics. These fabrics can be both coated or uncoated and vary in different weights depending on the requirements of the Safe Working Load (SWL), or Safety Factor (SF).

An FIBC can be as simple as an open top with a flat base used commonly within the building industry or,as a high tech unit produced within a clean room production environment to be used within the food/pharmaceutical industries. Most importantly, each FIBC is manufactured to meet a customer's specific requirement.

The Standard Bag includes Builder Bags, Tunnel Lift Bags, Corner and Cross-Corner Loop bags with various Top and Bottom attachment options. Designed to carry load ranging from 500 to 2000 kgs, with Safety Factor of 5:1/ 6:1, such bags offer better storage and transportation against the traditional woven sacks. The Builder Bags are primarily used to store construction materials like gravel, sand, stone etc. and are of the construction Open Top and Flat Bottom. Tunnel Lift Bags are an improved version of the Builder Bags which helps reduce manpower cost and filling time of the bags. Other applications of the Standard Bags include storage of Chemicals, Food and Pharmaceuticals.

The Q bag design is constructed by sewing polypropylene baffles across the four corners of the FIBC bag. Thus, when the bag is filled, the baffles prevent the sides from bulging out or falling over when being stored or transported, giving the bags a straight shape.

Q Bags offer numerous benefits to the customers :
  • Ability to fill 30% more material per bag as compared to the standard FIBC because of uniform material flow to all four corners.

UN Bags are designed to carry hazardous products and their use is regulated by the UN Association, commonly known as the Orange Book.

There are four types of FIBCs for dangerous goods made from woven plastics:
  • 13 H 1 - Woven plastics without coating and without liner
  • 13 H 2 - Woven plastics, coated and without liner
  • 13 H 3 - Woven plastics, uncoated and with liner
  • 13 H 4 - Woven plastics, coated and with liner

UN Bags are also classified according to the Hazard level of goods they carry. Each UN Bag shall carry the UN-Symbol mentioned in the below table which shall imply the hazard level of the product.

All UN Bags are treated as multi-trip bags even though there is no safety factor 6:1. This term is unknown in the UN regulations. UN bags are not classified by safety factors. They are instead classified by packing groups I, II or III. The safety factor 6:1 refers to FIBCs for non-dangerous goods only.

UN Test

Several tests are applied to the UN Certified Big Bags in order to verify UN requirements such as :

Top lift test, Tear test, Stacking test, Drop test, Topple test , Righting test The above tests are conducted by the certified test houses before they issue the certificates. This report will describe in detail not only the specification of the Fibc tested but the test levels at which the Fibc passed. The certificate is unique to the type of Fibc tested and may only be used to cover the carriage of products within the limit of the UN test.

These Bags are specially designed to store food items like potatoes, onions etc. The ventilated fabric permits the required air flow through the fabric into the bag, thus preventing spoilage due to moisture and mold build-up. Usage of FIBC Ventillated Bags have eased the common supply chain issues of handling, storing and transporting food items, commonly witnessed with the 25/50 kg woven sack bags.
